AZ Computers
After high school, I skipped the uni route and jumped directly into the IT scene. Landed a part-time gig at a small digital agency AZ Computers, a cozy place known for building websites for small and mid-sized businesses. After a couple of projects, I was able to snag a full-time role there.
Spent a solid five years there soaking up knowledge. Learned the ropes of design and dabbled in simple front-end projects. Working directly with clients was a game-changer. Showed me how to pitch and sell my ideas, not just design them.
Skills
Research and strategy
Usually, I start by diving into and leveraging existing data, feedback, competitor analysis, and understanding the problem space within the company. If these insights aren't available, I step in with research techniques. This involves methods like user interviews, surveys, usability testing, A/B testing, and customer journey mapping.
However I understand that every product and situation is different and I’m always trying to pick the right approach according the situation. For instance in some cases I would rather run a quick experiments then long time research that would take long time to develop and deliver. Always depends on the situation, goal and resources I have to work with.
UX and UI
“Are you more UX or more UI?” It depends on who’s asking but I would say 50/50. I do the things most UX designers would do when necessary (research, wireframes, prototypes etc.) but because of my graphic design background I always felt more confident with the UI part. I have experience building and working with Design Systems.
I tend to collaborate with product team, engineers and other disciplines in my thinking as early as possible, from my experience it often brings valuable insights and also make people feel more involved in the whole design process. I have experience working with both agile (Scrum, Kanban, Spotify model) and waterfall methodologies.
Prototyping and testing
I'm skilled at crafting prototypes using Figma, InVision and Sketch. While my proficiency in writing and editing HTML and CSS isn't at a professional level, I have a working knowledge of these languages. Additionally, I can utilize motion tools like Principle to create interaction designs that breathe life into the user experience.
I'm a strong advocate for conducting various forms of testing. I've written test scripts and actively participated in observing and reporting on numerous user testing sessions. These valuable insights have played important role in optimizing products before and after their release, ensuring a more refined and user-friendly experience.
